Sizzling Summer Makeup Looks

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

Summer is a time to refresh your makeup and debut a cleaner, softer, lighter look for the season. Here are some of the leading makeup artists to share the inspiration behind their runway creations. See how you can easily recreate these red-hot runway looks at home and make them your own.

Bobbi Brown: Mauve
This summer, makeup artist Bobbi Brown felt it was time to bring back mauve. "Mauve is one of those colors that has been in my head for so many years. It reminds me of the '70s and Ali MacGraw in Love Story," she says. Somewhere between a purple and a brown, mauve has so many varied tones—pale, dusty, vintage, dark—that it looks good on everybody. Here, this retro trend gets a modern makeover. See what the artist used from the Bobbi Brown collection:

Eyes:
Navajo Eye Shadow
Vintage Eye Shadow
Black Mauve Shimmer Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner
Chocolate Mauve Eye Shadow
Black Everything Mascara

Lips:
Heather Mauve Lip Color
Hot Cocoa Lip Liner
Black Pearl Shimmer Lip Gloss

Cheeks:
Mauve Blush

Chantecaille: Protected Paradise
For this season, Chantecaille creative director Olivia Chantecaille introduced two complementary compacts of ocean-inspired hues. As an added incentive to enjoy this fresh palette, 5 percent of proceeds from the sales of this collection will be donated to vital research on marine preservation. Here, makeup artist Polly Osmond created a dramatic eye by blending green, gray and gold shadows and lining the top and bottom lashes with mascara. The following products from the Chantecaille collection were used:

Eyes:
Protected Paradise Marine Green Eyeliner
Protected Paradise Medium Grey Eye Shadow
Protected Paradise Rose Gold Eye Shadow
Mascara Noir

Lips:
Zinnia Lip Chic
Effect Lip Definer

Face:
Protected Paradise Face Palette

Cheeks:
Laughter Cheek Shade

Estee Lauder: Bronze Goddess

For Estee Lauder makeup artist Blair Patterson, nothing says summer like perfectly bronzed skin. To sweeten this look, he turned to the sheer shades of the sea and another summertime favorite: fresh saltwater taffy! The face is a matte bronze, with a pop of color on the cheeks for a natural glow. Bright, candy-colored eye shadow, lots of mascara and a sheer gloss for slightly flushed lips complete the look. From the Estee Lauder collection, he used:

Eyes:
Automatic Eye Pencil Duo in Hyacinth Sky
Pure Color Eye Shadow in Lagoon
Pure Color Eye Shadow in Butter
Lash Primer Plus
Double Wear Zero Smudge Lengthening Mascara in Black

Lips:
Automatic Lip Duo in Rose Coral
Pure Color Ultralight Gloss in Pink Light

Face:
Double Wear Light SPF 10 Foundation
Ideal Light Concealer
Bronze Goddess Soft Matte Bronzer

Cheeks:
Rose Nuance Blush

Thanks for the lovely guidance...it is very difficult to give suitable make up to the eyes.Specially when you want to mix up two colors...the demarcation should be well blended and made natural.
