Does Apple Cider Vinegar Help to Treat Dandruff

Wednesday, February 17, 2016

Out of all those available natural ingredients to get rid of dandruff issue, apple cider vinegar works best. But, here, one question comes to our mind and that is – what makes apple cider vinegar so useful to treat dandruff? Let's find out!

Antibacterial: Apple cider vinegar is loaded with natural probiotics, which makes it antibacterial and anti-inflammatory in nature. So its use kills the bacteria and fungus that cause dandruff. It also prevents the reoccurrence of dandruff issues.

Anti-inflammatory: The anti-inflammatory properties of apple cider vinegar soothe the irritated scalp that is caused due to dandruff. It also reduces the inflammation of the scalp.

Restores the Moisture Level: The acidic content of the apple cider vinegar restores the moisture content of the scalp, which in turn controls the growth of fungus on the scalp. Its acidic content also maintains the pH balance of the skin, thus its use removes the build up from the scalp without removing the natural oil.

No Chemicals: Apple cider vinegar is free of chemicals. So, its regular use will not cause any damage to the scalp and at the same time will cure the dandruff issue effectively.

Opens Clogged Hair Follicles: Apart from all these above mentioned dandruff-fighting properties, apple cider vinegar also contains various enzymes that open the clogged hair follicles. This process, in turn, makes the scalp healthy and keeps dandruff at the bay.

Product Review: Original Mane ‘n Tail Shampoo

Friday, May 8, 2015

I always find a new product for my hair loss problem and never give up finding a product that suits my hair situation. And it's been so many years. Tried so many products already. So, this time around, I'm gonna try a product called Mane 'n Tail which I came across few months back. After doing research regarding this product, I decided to give their shampoo a try.

Mane 'n Tail shampoo
A little bit about this product. Originally, the product was created on the Katzev family horse farm in rural New Jersey. Straight Arrow was born when Mr. Katzev's parents created Original Mane 'n Tail Shampoo and Conditioner that were specifically targeted for show horses with long flowing manes and tails. Yes, for horses... Even cats and dogs. Many groomers choose these products for use in their shops. Does it sound funny to you so far, haha?!! I was skeptical at first, too. So, I did a bit more research into the success of the product from fellow bloggers' perspective. And, no worries, nowadays, their products can be used safely on humans as well as animals and lots of people are using this product.

After a month of using their shampoo, I am beyond impressed!! Not only help my hair grow faster, but it has also dramatically improve my hair loss problem. The results are phenomenal and instant!! Ever since I use it, my hair didn't fall so much anymore. Yes,  I know that this is a matter of opinion and some people just won't believe that when I said instant... hehe (you should try it for yourself )

This shampoo is safe for permed (like me), relaxed or color treated hair. It cleanses hair thoroughly, yet will not strip natural oils. I haven't tried their conditioner though... Their conditioner has an exclusive botanical oil based formula which helps repair the negative effects of these chemical processes.

Psstt!! Celebs such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Anniston are big fans of this product and even go as far as to say that it is a beauty secret :)

Review: Lucido-L Hair Designing Tube Hair Cream

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

I love having long and curly hair. My hair is permed digitally for many years now. But, the only thing that I don't like about my hair is that it gets frizzy easily when it dries up or after blow-dry and it makes me look so untidy and unmanageable. So I needed something that can treat my hair condition. I also love trying new things that's why I ended up with this product. I've tried many products which is good for my own rating but this one seems to be so good and working really well.

Lucido-L Hair Designing Tube Hair Cream
Swatch
Few weeks ago, I went to Guardian and spent a good one hour there just checking out which products is good for my hair condition and read every single detail of its description. I finally decided to try Lucido-L Hair Designing Tube Hair Cream. This product is affordable and available in most drugstore like Guardian and Watson. I'm sure some of you have heard of Lucido-L. It's a Japanese brand for hair styling. This product contains Panthenol (hair care ingredient) and light fragrance (green floral scent).

My frizzy hair without Lucido-L Hair Designing Tube Hair Cream

After application, my hair looks more manageable
What I like about this product is, it lasted me for the whole day without it looking dried out and my hair was just the way I looked when I walked out of my workplace. There's no sticky feeling and it has a natural glossy finish to it. It smells heavenly sweet and fresh and the curls look so natural and bouncy, too. I think people who have extremely dry and frizzy hair should get this product or at least try it. Will I repurchase this? Yes, absolutely. I will definitely repurchase it.

Manageable and bouncy looking
How to apply?
Spread a suitable amount onto your palm and rub into entire hair or hair ends. I concentrate on the areas where treatment needed and apply them generously at the edge. You can blow dry after that or let it dry naturally. You can also apply it on damp or semi-damp hair.

Have you tried this product?

Marie Claire: 10 Most Popular Haircuts of All Time

Saturday, June 19, 2010

It's no secret that many of us take our beauty cues from celebrities. Recently a poll from hair company Goody officially confirmed it by counting down the six most popular celeb-inspired hairstyles. Marie Claire has added a few iconic styles to make up the 10 best hairstyles of all time - some of which still work today.

Farrah Fawcett's Feathered Flip
No one has ever done more for the "feathered" look. While the '70s and Fawcett are no longer with us, this vintage style is still a favorite with ladies everywhere.

Jennifer Aniston's "Rachel" Cut
Since Aniston debuted this style as the character Rachel on Friends in the '90s, more than 11 million women have tried the cut. Fifteen years later it's still a frequent request, making the "Rachel" one of the most popular hairstyles of all time.

Meg Ryan's Shag
Ryan's made a career out of portraying the silly but sexy, quirky girl - a persona best embodied by this choppy, peppy shag. This look was first runner-up in Goody's poll.

Dannii Minogue's Sleek Bob
Minogue's flawless bob is both sophisticated and confident - the perfect complement for any edgy, no-nonsense woman.

Princess Diana's Royal Do
During her short, tragic life, Diana reached the pinnacle of elegance and carved out one of the most recognizable and coveted styles. According to the poll, her cut is still popular with women in all age groups.

Victoria Beckham's Posh Pageboy
When Victoria Beckham decided to shed her "Posh" skin, she took the shears to her locks and catapulted herself into icon status with this structured style. Her asymmetrical cut is another favorite with women in every demographic.

Michelle Obama's Classic Cut
In 2007, Obama was an unknown political wife. Since ascending to the White House, she's handled the spotlight with confidence and grace, thanks in part to her elegance, character, and this timeless and flattering cut.

Marilyn Monroe's Blonde Curls
In the history of hair color there is no blonde more famous than Marilyn Monroe. She may not have invented this look, but she certainly owned it. If you've got the guts to go bottle blonde, this style still guarantees sex appeal.

Mia Farrow's Pixie Crop
In 1968, after Vidal Sassoon gave Mia Farrow this extreme haircut for the film Rosemary's Baby, thousands of women ran to salons, eager to shed inches of hair, along with traditional standards of feminine beauty.

Blake Lively's Layered Locks
Poised to topple the popularity of the "Rachel," Blake Lively's long, blonde Gossip Girl tresses have become one of the most requested styles in salons across American - even prompting a New York Times article chronicling the craze.

Hair Rebonding

Saturday, June 6, 2009

Hair rebonding is a revolutionary permanent hair straightening system that makes the hair pin-straight, soft, smooth, silky, and shiny, with little or no damage to the hair. The cost for this treatment depends on the length and thickness of the hair, and of course, it's pricey. I just had my second time hair rebonded recently at Cutting Edge, a local hair salon and academy at The Spring, Kuching. The reason why I want to do this is that my hair is frizzy and it makes me look untidy. It is the dream of all stylish women to have beautiful hair and one of the most happening fashion trend followed by the girls of the present generation. It was a tiring experience because it took me almost 5 hours to get my hair done. What impressing me is that this salon is using L'oreal product only on their clients! What I've noticed about this salon is that they always ensure only quality hair care service to their clients. Their stylists' are trained to provide only excellent artistic touch; giving every client a chance to make change and express themselves.

My hair after rebonded

In the end of the session, the hair stylist introduced me L'oreal Professionnel Tecni Art Liss Control - Smooth Control Gel-cream (picture below). This cream is ideal for smoothing unruly hair, 24 hours anti humidity protection, and UV filter. In other words, it is to control my frizzy hair, especially my highlighted hair area. That part of my hair didn't get rebonded because it damages my hair by using the chemical for rebond treatment.

Ingredients:
Aqua, C13-16 isoparaffin, propylene glycol, dimethicone, peg/ppg-17/18 dimethicone, potato starch modified, phenoxyethanol, carbomer, behentrimonium chloride, hydroxypropyl guar, polyquaternium-4, aminomethyl propanol, methylparaben, amodimethicone, benzophenone-4, hexyl cinnamal, linalool, trideceth-12, limonene, geraniol, butylphenyl methylpropional, citronellol, cetrimonium chloride, parfum/fragrance.

Coconut Oil For Hair

Monday, May 26, 2008

Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair. It helps healthy growth of hair by providing them a shinny complexion. It is also an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged air. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. It not only softens the hair and leaves it shiny, it also leaves your scalp moisturized. Evenly run fingers through hair and rub coconut oil into hair. Using a comb to distribute oil through hair is also acceptable. Usually, I put it on dry hair at night before I go to bed and put a small towel over my pillowcase. Then in the morning I wash my hair with shampoo. I use it once a week. It works great!

How to Curl Hair with Hair Straightener

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

1. Start with clean and completely dry hair.

2. Use a small amount of Sedu heat protectant product (or similar product) to protect your hair from the extra heat you will be using to style it. Starting at the ends of your hair, distribute the product throughout your hair with your fingers.

3. Choose a flat iron (Straightener) that is slim - the width of the iron will determine the size of the curl. (The plate width should be less than 2 inch)

4. Once the iron has reached the desired temperature, take a small section of hair and place the iron towards the root of your hair.

5. With your other hand, wrap the section of hair once around the iron and slowly drag the iron through your hair - similar to the way you would curl a ribbon with scissors.

6. After the iron is all the way pulled through your hair, use your fingers to twirl the hair into a curl.

7. Separate the curls with your fingers - but do NOT brush them out - and then spritz with a light mist of your favorite hairspray to set the style.

Cameron Diaz

Although she says, "My family and friends prefer me as a brunette," her change back to blonde lightens up her face and reinforces her young California-girl vibe.

Bob Hair

Sunday, January 20, 2008

A bob is a short haircut in which a weighted area is left to fall between the ears and chin. It became modern for women in the early 1920s, and in the 1970s it became popular as a men's style. Just like fashion, hairstyle trends change with each passing season, year and decade. Through the years we have seen many hairstyles come and go. The Bob hair cut is one of those classics hairstyles that seem to never go out of trend. No matter what the current fashion goes, it is always there. But they can be versatile and there are many types of bobs out there to choose from.

Why Does The Hair Split?

Monday, December 10, 2007

The hair splitting is due to a slight bio-chemical imbalance (lack of certain fatty acids). This reveals itself under a microscope as a tiny mushroom set like a parasite on each hair. In spring this capillary phenomenon is normal and goes away without special treatment. You should not brush your hair too hard, use too many chemical based products or use the blow dryer.

How To Apply Henna

Monday, November 26, 2007

My mum uses Henna on her white hair. Nowadays she dyes her hair often because her white hair grows very fast and only after one week hair roots become white-gray and its very noticable. I've seen her dyeing her hair done at home.

The use of henna to dye hair is really simple and easy. When using henna as a hair dye, actually you can mix henna with olive oil, black coffee, red wine, bit of lemon juice and boiled tea water. Then, mix it all up in a plastic bowl and let it sit overnight covered with a wrapper.

Apply it on your hair the next day. Wrap the top of your head with the plastic cap and leave it in for 3 hours. Rinse well with with cool water. It is not necessary that you would get the required reddish effect as soon as you apply henna because it takes a few days for the henna to oxidize and change color. The end result is Orangey-reddish tones but with oxidation, henna will turn darker and redder. That's how my mum did it to her white hair.

It is always better to perform a small test before the aplication of henna because in any case henna does not give any gurantee any hair color. Thus it is advised that you always perform the hair test so that you have a better understanding of your hair type and you can make your own decision whether or not the henna product is safe for your hair.

Thus after performing the test you should be very well satisfied as the results obtained by the test will be the same as the result that will be obtained by the application of henna on your hair.

How to Get Rid of Dandruff

Saturday, November 24, 2007

Dandruff is a mysterious ailment and a mild inflammation of the scalp. It is a kind of an itchy, and persistent skin disorder of the scalp associated with inefficient hair care.

In dandruff the scalp sheds dead epidermal (skin) cells which are some kind of visible dust-like stuff or flakes that falls from scalp to shoulders. Dandruff can happen at any age but is most commonly found in people between the ages of 12 and 80 and causes itching or soreness of the scalp. Dandruff is made up of bits of dead skin that the scalp sheds due to effects of metabolism.

Prolonged dandruff followed by itchiness, can lead to eczema if it worsens. Our entire body sheds dead skin cells every twenty-four days. If the scalp doesn't shed its dead epidermal cells then it would lead to excessively thick human scalp ,but when the shedding is very often ,then it leads to dandruff.

While dandruff does not actually cause hair loss, you can have a full head of hair and still have dandruff, it should be cleared up if possible, as a clean scalp can only help prevent hair loss. It is observed that people with dry scalp have more chances of dandruff than people with oily scalp.

Methods of Getting Rid of Dandruff

Try using commercial dandruff shampoos to get rid of your dandruff.
A good anti-dandruff shampoo should contain salicylic acid, zinc pryithione, selenium sulfide, coal tar, or ketoconazole, all of which treat irritated skin cells. If you're not sure which product to try first, ask a professional, like your hair stylist or dermatologist. If you sucessfully get rid of your dandruff and choose to go back to a regular-formula shampoo and conditioner, use smaller amounts and make sure to rinse thoroughly to avoid further scalp irritation from over-washing.

Consider changing your styling regimine to get rid of dandruff.
Compound build-up from styling products (hair gels, creams, waxes, dyes) and heat and perspiration from hair dryers and irons can cause the scalp irritation and build-up that contributes to dry or oily scalps.

Treat a dry scalp with moisturizing oils and lotions to get rid of dandruff.
An invigorating scalp scrub or oil (try something with peppermint in it) can help to heal dry and flaky skin, as well as improve circulation -- another key factor in the presence of dandruff. Other ways to improve circulation to and treat an irritated scalp include alternating rinses under cold and warm water, exercising in the fresh air and sunshine (use sunscreen), and brushing or massaging your scalp before shampooing.

A healthy diet can prevent and get rid of dandruff.
Excessive intake of fats, oils, starches, sugars can create the imbalances and nutritional deficiencies that cause an unhealthy scalp and, in turn, dandruff. B Vitamins (especially B6), Vitamin A, healthy fats found in nuts and flax, garlic, and oil of oregano are all feasible dandruff-fighting dietary supplements. Food allergies can also be behind your dandruff; common allergies include chocolate, nuts, and shellfish.

Stress and anxiety can contribute to dandruff.
Emotional, mental, and physical stress play a huge factor in your overall health, dandruff and scalp included. Lack of sleep and rest, stress and worry about your work and/or personal life, illness, and fluctuating hormones can all contribute to your dandruff problem. Just because something bigger doesn't seem directly connected to the state of your scalp doesn't mean you can discount in your dandruff treatment plan. Be aware of your mental and emotional state of health, and be willing take steps to improve problems there in order to get rid of physcial problems like dandruff.

How To Determine Your Hair Types

Wednesday, November 21, 2007

In order to determine your hair type, check it out by performing a simple test. On the second day afer the wash, simply dab a tissue on your scalp. If you have oily hair then the tissue will leave an oil blot and if you have normal hair then the tissue shows nothing and it is dry, the strands stick to each other.

Dry hair
The hair has a moisture content of approximately 10% tends to be limp, looks flat and lacks volume .This kind of hair are difficult to manage and have lot of problems associated with it. It does not hold a style .You will know all about the way in which greasy hair clings to itself and to your scalp, how the excess oil weighs the hair down and spoils your style, and how dust sticks to the grease so that your hair seems to be dirty only a day or two after it has been washed.

You know that your hair's condition is due simply to your sebaceous glands being particularly active. But you can help it to improve. Remember, sebum produced by your scalp does not spread itself over your hair by magic, or out of spite!

It is spread by direct contact of the hair with your scalp. And something as simple as passing your fingers through your hair speeds up the transfer of the grease. So, after you have styled your hair, avoid fingering it or running your fingers through it.

You can thus slow down the rate at which sebum collects on your hair, and it will not get greasy again quite so soon. You should also wash your hair with, and use a special conditioner for greasy hair. This will improve the feel of hair that is greasy at the roots and dry at the tips, as well as protecting the hair from .

The oil glands are not active and all the moisture in the hair evaporates and the hair is extremely dry and fragile and more prone to damage. Thus your hair dry or brittle and unmanageable with split ends.

Exposure to Sun, salt and chlorinated water snatches all the moisture is drawn from the hair resulting in frizzy, dry hair. Thus dry hair neds great care and using harsh shampoo and chemical treatment can cause exceesive damage to dry hair.

Dry hair should be washed less frequently and that too with use a mild shampoo and a good cleansing shampoo specially designed for greasy hair as the chemicals present in harsh shamposs can cause furthervdrying of the scalp . Always use a cream conditioner afterwards.

Never brush too hard and alwsys comb it gently as dry hair is brittle and fragile. Also avoid the use of electric curlers and hair. Heat, open cuticles and harsh chemicals ans lastly poor care are majorcauses of dry hair. Massage well atlesat once a week and it is adviced to take a healthy and nutritious diet especially rich in zinc.

Oily Hair
Here the oil gland is overactive resulting in over secretion of oil and trhus the oil is oily, greasy, or stringy .It is also accompanied with oily skin. Oliy hair can be made drier by getting it it permed or tinted . Oily hair is recognized easily as it looks more oily and greasy, the scalp and hair gets too oily and even after shampooing it attracts more dirt.

The oily hair should be washed as frequently as you like depending from indivisual to indivisual and no conditioner is required for oily hair. For best results oily hairshould be rinsed out with lemon andwith oils and shampoos rich in neem and henna.

Its is very wrong to say that oily hair does not need a head massage. Infact head massage Is necessary once to maintain the pH level of the scalp. Oily foods should be avoided and more stress should be given on green leafy vegetables.

Normal Hair
This is the most ideal hair because it is neither too oily nor too dry or greasy. Normal hair is shining and can hold style really well. It is well balanced, does not dry out and is not permed or color-treated . Thus normal hair looks been permed or color-treated.

Split Ends

Tuesday, September 25, 2007

Split ends in the hair are the most common hair problem that every woman faces. Split ends occur when the protective cuticle is stripped away from the ends of the hair. Split ends are more common when the hair is dry or brittle.

Split ends are most often seen in long hair but also found in shorter hair that is out of condition and is an affliction of anyone trying to grow their hair.

Split ends are more likely to develop in dry or brittle hair, and typical causes of damage include excessive dying or vigorous brushing. Split ends sometimes occur because the protective hair oils do not reach the end of the hair shaft, causing it to split.

Having a regular trim will cut out the split ends and keep your hair manageable. Hair dryers with a high heat setting or hair straighteners can also cause this type of damage.

The best way to get rid of spilt ends is to cut them off. There is no other effective cure for split ends. The conditioner you use is also important in preventing split ends.
