Reasons to Remove Makeup Before Bedtime

Friday, February 15, 2013

Some people just hate removing makeup when they come home late from a party or stay up late working or studying knowing that they should remove their makeup before bed. But, we're just too tired and lazy to do so. Do we know the consequences of sleeping with makeup on?

During the day, our skin is exposed to pollution, dirt and grime. The skin needs to breathe when we go to sleep, but if it's covered in a thick layer of makeup, how can it breathe?? Our body temperature rises as we sleep, hence opening the pores. When makeup is left on, it could seep deep down into the pores making them clogged and then breakout. Once the collagen levels decline (due to the aging process), the pores do not snap back as easily once it has been enlarged. And leaving makeup can only lead to more inflammation that can generate free radicals and collagen breakdown.

During night time, the skin needs oxygen to repair itself. And sleeping with your makeup on deprives it of this vital nutrient. When makeup stays on too long, it blocks the natural exfoliating process, which can leave your skin looking dull.

Sometimes, if we rub our eyes when asleep, we can break them easily, too. It can cause all sorts of skin problems, not to mention soiling your pillows.

Not removing eye makeup can also cause it to flake off and even more fragile (this phrase does not make sense). Eyelids will crease more quickly as well. This may further lead to skin rashes or worse eye infections such as pink eye or even corneal ulcers!! Don't forget that our eyes are the most sensitive yet most neglected in terms of make up removal.

Must remember, never go to bed without removing your makeup if you want to maintain healthy skin. Make it a nightly habit just as you brush your teeth. So, don't forget to wash off your eye makeup!

I totally agree with you! Its very important to remove your makeup before going to bed. I guess people who don't know how to take care of their skin are the only one's not removing their makeup after a whole day of use.
