Summer Secrets To Controlling Oily Skin

Friday, May 10, 2013

Most people get excited when they hear the mention of summer, but if you have oily skin, the very thought may make you cringe. All of the outside activity mixed with higher temperatures and a larger humidity percentage means that your oily skin will be at it's absolute worst. Even more excessive oil production means more clogged pores, which in turn means that get blemish breakouts. It's a vicious cycle! There is hope, however, and you can break this seemingly never ending cycle of oily, blemished skin. Want to know how? Check out our summer secrets to controlling oily skin!

Secret #1: Blot Often
If you have oily skin, you should carry blotting papers around in your purse or beach bag. This little absorbent papers are amazing. Just dab them on your skin and allow them to absorb any excess oils that have been produced throughout the day. How many times a day really depends on how oily your skin actually is and what you've been doing all day. If you only have a slight oil problem and sit inside all day, once will probably do you. If you have very oily skin and spend your day running around outside in the heat, you may need to blot three or four times. It only takes a few seconds, and it's well worth it!

Secret #2: Stay Cool
While it's not always possible, you should stay cool whenever possible. The cooler you are, the less you sweat, and the less you sweat, the less oil your skin will produce. This doesn't mean that you have to sit inside all day and watch everyone else have fun. Instead, opt for sitting in the shade or wear lighter clothes. You can also keep your body temperature down a bit by staying properly hydrated. Dehydrated can raise your body temperature an amazing of amount of degrees, and besides, you should be drinking lots of water anyways - it is good for you, you know.

Secret #3: Watch What You Eat
Sure, french fries are delicious, beer or cocktails are great on a night out, and there is nothing better than a hamburger in the middle of a hot summer day...or is there? All of this can make your skin oilier, and you don't even to get any of that nasty french fry grease on your skin either. What goes into your body has to come out, and oftentimes, it comes out through your pores. So watch what you eat and keep your junk food habits under control. It's fine to splurge once in a while, but try not to make it an every day occurrence.

Secret #4: Wash Your Skin The Right Way
When it comes to keeping your skin clean and oil free, not just any old cleanser will do. You need one that contains 2% salicylic acid, which will help to prevent any acne breakouts that might occur. This will also make sure your pores are clean, even deep down. Excessive oils will be washed right down the drain, and there are no excuses not to wash your face. All it takes is about two minutes, once a day, right before you go to bed, in order to keep your skin oil and blemish free!

If you use these four summer secrets like we've suggested, we're sure you can keep your oily skin under control no matter how hot the heat gets or how thick the humidity feels! Got something to say about our secrets or want to suggest one of your own? Tell us all about it in the comments below!
