Face Shapes and Eyebrows

Friday, September 5, 2014

Eyebrows are like a picture frame to decorate your eyes. The right frame certainly makes your eyebrows and entire face look more interesting. Despite the constantly changing shapes due to current fashion and trends, the basic formation remains the same. Eyebrow shape must always be longer than the eye, so that your face will look balanced. The right eyebrows can make your face look sexier, younger and more beautiful. If your brows aren't in shape, you might end up looking dull or worried. As a makeup artist myself for many years, I've always told my clients that eyebrows are the most important facial feature. And, always make sure that they get the right eyebrows for their face shapes. When you look good, you will always feel good!

How to determine your face shape?
Very simple. Start by pulling your hair back from your face, and with no makeup on, look closely in the mirror.

Generally there are 6 types of faces, such as oval, long, heart, round, square and diamond.

1. Oval Face Shape
This is an ideal face shape and the most favourable face shape as it is compatible with all forms of eyebrows and even hairstyles. This face shape gracefully tapers toward chin. Has wider forehead and prominent cheekbones.

2. Round Face Shape
Round face shape has almost the same width and length while the cheekbones are the widest part of the face.

Solution:
To make round face appear to be longer is to create a high arch eyebrows shape. Avoid rounded brow as it makes the face more round.

3. Long Face Shape
A long face shape has a long proportion to the width. This face shape gracefully taper toward chin. Some have prominent chin.

Solution:
As your face already long, you don't want your face look more longer than that. A flat eyebrow shape can shortens a long face shape.

4. Square Face Shape
Forehead, cheekbones and jawline for square face shape has almost the same width. Square and bony jawline is prominent feature.

Solution:
Start with the curved eyebrows shape then add more angle to create balance. The stronger and more bony the jawline is the more angled brow shape should be created.

5. Heart Face Shape
This face shape strongly taper toward chin. Chin tend to be pointy and forehead maybe a prominent feature.

Solution:
Forehead maybe the widest of the face. Depend on how prominent of the forehead, start with a low arch, round curved brows then add more volume to it as it adds more length to the forehead as well as balancing the pointy chin.

6. Diamond Face Shape
Face highly angular and somewhat bony. Widest at temples and not as common compare to others.

Solution:
A curved eyebrows shape will soften the angled face and reduce the widest part of the face temples.
